Traditional signs or electric - what's best when prices fluctuate? July, 14 2007 I was driving home from work one day trying to figure out a new take on the same old gas price stories (it was pushing $3.40 a gallon in Albuquerque at the time). I saw a ConnocoPhillips next to a local gas station and thought how awful it must've been to change the sign at the local station every morning with prices constantly rising. I wondered if that person got harassed by passing cars, if they needed to change the sign multiple times a day and if their station would change to electric if they had the funds. I pitched it to my editor and the next thing I knew I had a front page story that got picked up by the ScrippsHoward news wire. Story | Albuquerque Tribune |

Hannah Montana tickets sell out in seconds September 30, 2007 It wasn't a big deal when one mom called the paper to complain that she couldn't tickets to Hannah Montana despite being online at 8 a.m. When the number started approaching ten howeer, I knew something was up. I made a few calls and got to talk to the president at Ticketmaster who told me that Hannah Montana sells out quicker than "anyone since Elvis." In the weeks following my article a few other outlets picked up on the topic and more Hannah Montana ticket stories came out. Story | The Post-Standard |

Bartonsville Gets Camplified July, 7 2006 The clips I sent when applying to the Pocono Record included some music reviews that ultimately landed me in their lifestyles section. The only catch is the concert scene in Stroudsburg, Pa. isn't as robust as you would imagine. This showcase of bands at a nearby camp was one of my first music related assignments and it was actually quite cool. In addition to the show, campers were treated to their own talent show and various vendors (including Fender) coming to let them try out some gear. Story | The Pocono Record |

Barack 'N' Roll October 15, 2008 I had been volunteering for the Obama campaign before moving back up to Syracuse and accepting a job at the university. I read about many Obama concerts all across the country with some pretty legitimate acts (Andrew Bird, Franz Ferdinand) and I couldn't pass on the opportunity to catch the Syracuse edition. Get offline and save your local record store, one album at a time April 1, 2008 I spent my collegiate days as the Editor in Chief of a weekly magazine ("The Student Voice") and finally as a pop-culture columnist for the campus daily ("The Daily Orange"). This example of one of those columns was inspired by a piece I saw in the Raleigh News & Observer about a local record shop closing near UNC's campus. My love for SU's local joint (The Sound Garden - a place where I take every visitor I host within their first day) made it an easy topic to pursue. Story | The Daily Orange |
